Could Limo Hire be replaced by Helicopter Hire?

Posted by | Posted in Limo hire | Posted on 18-08-2010

There was a time when limo hire was the most luxurious form of transport that you could hire out. However, a new trend that is becoming more popular these days is helicopter hire. It may sound silly, but helicopter hire is now seen to be the most impressive, exciting and one of the most unique forms of transportation.

It is the Transport Broker Group that has started this new helicopter venture. It aims to provide helicopter hire services throughout the country. Not only that but it will also enable customers to compare the different services available throughout the company too. The company already runs a successful limo hire service throughout the UK. So will this new venture overtake the popularity of limo hire?

Whilst it may be a more luxurious choice, helicopter travel will ultimately be much more expensive than limo hire. Therefore limo companies will not have to start worrying just yet. It may take away some business from limo hire companies, though the majority of people will still continue to travel by car rather than helicopter!

For example, a customer isn’t going to consider hiring out a helicopter to go to a local event! It would make much more sense to hire out helicopter travel if you were travelling to a different part of the country. So overall it will provide slight competition, but not enough to make limo hire companies truly panic!

Limos to the Rescue!

Posted by | Posted in Limo hire | Posted on 27-05-2010

When the UK came to a standstill thanks to the Volcanic Ash fiasco, thousands of Brits became stranded. Not only were people stuck abroad, but they were also stuck throughout UK airports. However, transport companies in the South have been called to the rescue. Limos have been hired to get people home. One company in Southport has even received calls from as far away as London to collect unhappy Brits.

The crisis has certainly seen a surprising boom in limo hire throughout the country. As airlines pick up the cost, Brits have had no problems hiring the most expensive form of transport to get them home. The Porsche Cayenne was one of the impressive limos that arrived to pick up passengers.

With the crisis now over it is business as usual. However, the boom in business must certainly have been appreciated by limo hire companies in the UK. Some transport companies have even helped out for free. It has been one of the most impressive rescue efforts by the transport industry in the UK. When buses and taxis became full, limos were sent in to help.

Overall whilst it was a miserable time, seeing the impressive Porsche Cayenne coming to rescue them certainly cheered up some passengers!

BBC Bosses Criticised over Limo Hire Bill

Posted by | Posted in Latest News | Posted on 04-04-2010

Over a period of two years, the BBC has had to pay out more than £500,000 on limo hire bills. Now the bosses at the BBC are being criticised for splashing the cash on what is said to be unnecessary expenses.

The main problem is that the money is not coming out of the four top boss’s wages. Instead it is considered to be an expense that they can claim back. This is on top of £14 taxi fares that the company pays out for its employees each year. The criticism is that such benefits should be taken away whilst the UK is in such poor financial state.

It was The Sun newspaper that revealed the full extent of the limo hire costs. However, the BBC has defended the use of the cars by stating that the bosses use them as workstations. When travelling to and from meetings they keep in touch with clients and prepare in the back of the limo. Still, members of the public and the Taxpayer’s Alliance are understandably not happy with the use of taxpayer’s money.

Of course it doesn’t help that the cars are only used by four of the top bosses. Whether the use of chauffeur driven limos will be reduced in the future remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure – the company has definitely faced a lot of criticism since the news broke out.

Second Hand Limos on the Rise Thanks to the Credit Crunch

Posted by | Posted in Limo hire | Posted on 07-03-2010

It was first reported that limo hire companies were not as badly hit as some other sectors during the credit crunch. However it is now being reported that more and more second hand limousines are being sold. This is due to hire companies folding in the credit crunch. However, the rise in second hand limos isn’t all due to companies folding under the pressure. Some companies are instead selling their old limos to fund newer ones.

Limo hire has increased in popularity over the last few years and the demand has slightly changed too. These days’ customers expect the best. After all, they are paying a good price so they want a good quality service. This includes luxury seating, built in DVD players and a built in bar. The trend is modern limousines, not traditional ones. Therefore the hire companies have to find a way of funding these newer, more expensive models.

Finally many UK limo hire companies are buying their limos from second hand companies. Companies that have survived are taking full advantage from the ones that didn’t by purchasing their old cars. So the credit crunch has had an effect on the limo hire business and many companies now have to be clever when it comes to improving their income.

Licensing Officials Catch Out Somerset Limo Driver

Posted by | Posted in Latest News | Posted on 14-11-2009

A private limo driver in Somerset has been caught out by Somerset Licensing officials for driving without insurance or a valid license. The Somerset District council received reports from members of the public after they noticed the driver speeding. Some passersby even worried that the vehicle was not roadworthy.

Following up on the complaints, the local council did a thorough investigation into the driver and his company, only to find that he did not have the right paperwork. All official limousine drivers need official paperwork to prove that they can carry passengers and this one didn’t! However, the problems didn’t just stop there. The council also uncovered a number of other problems too.

Eventually the driver was caught out by police and the council as he was transporting a passenger from Yeovil to Heathrow Airport. He was found to have no insurance documents, no license for the vehicle and no private hire license.

The driver has now been given a 12 month conditional discharge as well as a criminal record and a £1,500 fine along with 6 points on his license. This should come as some warning to all limousine drivers. You need to ensure that you have the necessary documents and you are insured if you want to avoid getting into serious trouble!

Guests at Simon Cowell’s 50th Treated to Limos

Posted by | Posted in Limo hire | Posted on 08-10-2009

Guests attending Simon Cowell’s 50th birthday were treated to limo transportation from London to Hertfordshire. Not one for doing things lightly, Simon hired the top of the range limos to transport up to 400 celebrity guests to his birthday bash. Once there they were treated to a Simon themed evening.

The table cloths had Simon’s silhouette on them, the toilet cubicles had framed pictures of him and the waiters were even wearing Simon Cowell masks. To top it off there were even DVD’s in the background playing clips of celebrities saying great things about the birthday boy. It was certainly a birthday to remember for all involved!

Simon himself chose to be chauffeured home in his favourite car – the black Rolls Royce Phantom. Many celebrities have fallen in love with the Phantom and it really isn’t hard to see why! It is one of the grandest cars in the world and Mr Cowell wouldn’t have settled for anything less.

It is thought that the party in total cost around £1 million. There was plenty of entertainment and all in all it was a great success. The company who hired Cowell the fleet of limos will certainly have been glad of the business!

Limo Companies Warned About On-Board DVDs

Posted by | Posted in Limo hire | Posted on 02-09-2009

Limo hire companies who screen on-board DVDs have been warned to make sure they have an official license. In order to try and cut down on illegal film piracy, the Federation Against Copyright Theft are cracking down on limo companies who are screening movies illegally. Those who do not have a license could face a £5,000 fine or up to six months in prison if they are caught.

Limo’s which feature DVD players as well as bars and other fancy gadgets are becoming more and more popular. Passengers tend to demand more services these days and a DVD player is something that they have come to expect. However, this new warning is causing confusion among many limo hire companies. There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the guidelines for showing copyrighted films. Many limo drivers are unsure what the current guidelines actually are. For that reason a statement has been issued by MPLC, an independent copyright license service. It states:

“Home Videos and DVDs are intended for private, domestic use only. When shown on-board a limousine, or anywhere outside ones home, this qualifies as “public performance” under the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act 1988 (Section 19).”

Now that this warning has been issued, limo drivers will have to be a lot stricter with their on-board DVD showings. The £5,000 fine and possible six month prison sentence will certainly be enough to deter any illegal DVD showings in the future!

Limo Service Finally Picks up After Recession

Posted by | Posted in Limo hire | Posted on 06-08-2009

Limo hire has taken a big hit since the worldwide recession started. However now it seems that things are finally looking up. It is all thanks to many of the Limousine hire Service Directories.

Even though Limo hire is considered to be a luxury that many cannot afford, it actually makes more sense to hire a limousine rather than get a taxi at the end of the evening. This is especially true if there is a large group of partygoers. If everyone in the group chipped in to pay the hire cost, it would actually work out to be quite cheap. It would also use less fuel than a number of taxi’s would have so you would also be helping out the environment.

The Hummer in particular has increased in popularity. Officially an American Limo, it has become more and more popular abroad thanks to its unique appearance and lively reputation.

Another reason why Limousine hire is becoming more popular is because they are easier to use when travelling to an area that you do not know. The chauffeur knows where they are going and they will get you safely to your chosen destination. Hiring a car on the other hand can be very expensive unless you opt to drive it yourself. So hiring a Limo is often more cost effective in the long run than any other option. The recession may have hit the Limo hire companies hard, but things are now starting to look up.
